Meet dissects plight of farmers

Expressing disappointment over inability to cultivate crops due to occupation of agricultural lands of the Meetei located in the foothills of Thangjing Ching close to the High Canal by Kukis since the ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023, Moirang Kendra Apunba Loumee Shinmee Lup and Nupi Lup organised a joint meeting at Terakhongshangbi Awang community hall and adopted several resolutions on Friday.
A release jointly issued by Shinmee Lup and Nupi Lup informed that the meeting was attended by Loumi Lup vice president Oinam Ingotomba Singh, zilla parishad Matum Birachandra and Loumi Lup advisors.
The resolutions adopted in cluded exerting pressure on the government for deployment of adequate security forces so that farmers could safely tend their fields at Thangjing foothills.
As the assured compensation to farmers who could not cultivate their agricultural land crops has not been released till now, despite submission of required documents, on grounds of inclusion of GPS, the meeting demanded the government to release the compensation at the earliest.
If agricultural lands could not be cultivated this year also, then compensation should be given to the affected farmers, the meeting resolved.
It also urged the government to provide irrigation water which has been cut off by Kukis and also to discuss about the payment of compensation for the livestock killed by Kukis.
