TRI holds IEC campaign on tribal welfare schemes

Tribal Research Institute (TRI), under the Department of Tribal Affairs & Hills, organised an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign on the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DATA) ahd its benefits at Mt Zion College, Kathikho Karong, Senapati.
The event was hosted by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college.
As part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh celebration under the theme "Empowering Tribals for Viksit Bharat", the awareness programme highlighted the vision behind DAJA, a major initiative aimed at the socio-economic uplift of tribal communities focusing on the provision of basic amenities such as roads, drinking water, healthcare, telecommunications, electricity, and housing in remote tribal areas.
With a scheme outlay of Rs 24,000 crore, the initiative targets over 44 lakh tribal people in more than 29,000 habitations across 18 states and union territories.
During the IEC campaign, TRI deputy director John Gaidingam highlighted the benefits of DAJA and announced that scholarships for both pre matric and post-matric students belonging to Scheduled Tribes have been notified and is open for application.
He also urged the students and youth present to spread awareness about the various developmental schemes initiated by the government of India under DAJA to empower tribal communities and ensure saturation of benefits in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Former Miss Manipur and the Face of the IEC campaign Phapha Gachui, said the campaign team's focus is on students and youth, who are seen as the most powerful messengers to carry forward the information to their families, relatives and villages.
She informed that villages with a population of more than 500 are eligible to benefit from multiple government schemes aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities across the country.
Mt Zion College managing director Dr Siba Lohrii, led the reading of the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan pledge during the function.
Speaking to this correspondent, Phapha Gachui explained that the event was part of a broader awareness and benefit saturation campaign, which has already been conducted in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Tamenglong, Noney, Kangpokpi and Chandel districts.
The campaign will also be taken to Mao, Maram and Ukhrul in the coming days.
She encouraged all tribal citizens to take full advantage of the schemes under DAJA and advised them to contact their respective DCs and SDOs for relevant details.
The programme was attended by CEO of ADC Senapati Adahrii Maheo, Padma Shri awardee and folk musician Guru Reuben Mashangva, Goodwill Music Project founder James Riamei, filmmaker Ashok Veilou and IEC media In-charge Yuri.
A similar programme was also held at Mount Everest College.
