Heavy rainfall to persist in NE including Manipur

Heavy rainfall is likely to persist across the Northeast, including Manipur, over the next few days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned of continued weather pattern following the weakening of a depression that had earlier formed over Bangladesh, and sounded Orange alert for the entire northeast for Sunday, IMD reported that the depression over Bangla desh, which had moved north-northeastwards, weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over Meghalaya arid its neighbourhood at 5:30 pm on May 30.It further weakened into a low pressure area over northeast Assam and surrounding areas early Saturday morning and became less marked by 8:30 am.

Despite the weakening system, the associated cyclonic circulation persists over Arunachal Pradesh in the lower tropospheric levels.
As a result, light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue at most or many places across the Northeast for the next seven days, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several states.
Manipur, along with Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura, is likely to witness isolated very heavy rainfall on Sunday.
On Saturday, Senapati district recorded 150 mm of rainfall.
IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Sunday across the entire northeastern region, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya as well as the four hill states.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are very likely at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Sunday.
The activity is expected to continue through June 2 to June 4, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places across these states, as well as Arunachal Pradesh.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning will also persist through this period.
The rainfall pattern is forecasted to continue into June 5 and 6 with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
Fairly wide spread to widespread rain fall activity is likely over the northeastern region from June 7 to 9.IMD has cautioned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could result in localised flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas, occasional reduction in visibility, minor damage to kutcha roads, vulnerable structures, horticulture and standing-crops.
Localised landslides and mudslides are also likely.
Residents are advised to cheek for traffic congestion before travelling, avoid water logged or vulnerable areas, and follow any official advisories issued during this period.
