Imphal, June 22 2023:
Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) has called upon women fojks in different localities to maintain calm in the valley area and help those who are defending their villages in the foothill areas.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, IKAL secretary general Wahengbam Luwangleima said that a seven member delega tion of IKAL went to Delhi on June 13 and submitted memorandums to the President of India, Prime Minister, union home minister, defence minister and forest minister with the demand to restore peace, uphold state's integrity, prevent influx of Myanmar based militants and preserve the forest areas of the state.
While pointing out that it is not an easy task for the common people to take on the well armed narco-terrorists and Kuki militants, she reasoned that continuous attacks on Meetei villages forced the public to take up arms to defend themselves.
However, as no war will bring any good to the common people, leaders should take proactive role in containing the violence and restoring peace, Luwangleima stressed.
Recalling how Covid-19 pandemic forced students to stay out of school for two years, she lamented that the present crisis in the state has once again brought education to a grinding halt.
It is time to think and explore ways to ensure education is not disrupted amid the ongoing fight to safeguard the terri torial integrity of the state.
People from different walks of life should also come out and contribute whatever they could to those defending their villages from the sustained attack of Kuki militants, reiterated the general secretary.
Informing that IKAL would be holding a mega convention for women to discuss the situation and ways in which they can help in the present situation, she appealed to women from every locality to attend the convention for strengthening the women's movement.
