Transfer JNV Meitei students to valley: Parents

Parents/guardians of Meitei students studying at various Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNVs) located in hill districts have requested authority concerned to take up steps to transfer their wards to JNVs in valley area at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here Thursday, Irungbam Ibungo spoke on behalf of the parents / guardians and informed that there are a total of 65 students studying in Class VII to XII at the JNV in Tuibong, Chu-rachandpur district and 54 at the JNV Kangpokpi, Senapati district.
As the surroundings of JNV Kangpokpi are predominantly resided by Kukis, the students are in fear of continuing their studies at the locations.
Meanwhile, there are 15 Meitei students studying at JNV Ramva in Ukhrul district.
The road to the school is also inhabited mostly by Kuki villages, thereby posing huge safety risks, he conveyed.
As such, a written request had been sent to the JNV authorities concerned and also to Regional Office Shil long of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and the DCs of Chu-rachandpur, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi to transfer the total 134 students studying in the JNVs of the three districts to the ones in the valley area.
With the summer vacation starting on June 28, the parents/guardians of the school have been left restless, confused and fear for the safety of their children.
Questions are now being raised on whether education is important or the lives of their children are more important, he remarked.
Ibungo further urged the authorities concerned to take up measures to ensure the safety and the mental well-being of the children.
He also urged the state government to take serious note of the matter.
