Imphal, June 22 2023:
Liangmai Ruangdi, Mumbai (LR-M) has expressed deep shock and anger over the 'barbaric and dreadful incident " where a Liangmai Naga house was burnt down at Leimakhong Chingmang village on June 18 night by the Kukis.
The Liangmai community, under the directive of the Naga apex body UNC, has been neutral and caused no harm to anyone in this unfortunate Kuki-Meitei conflict and to avoid unwanted incident as instructed yangmai Nagas living in Leimakhong displayed Liangmai Naga' labels on gates of their respective houses, LR-M said.
The Liangmai body continued that Leimakhong village is dominated by Kukis community with few Meeteis, Nagas and Nepalis.
"As per Naga customary law, burning of a house is considered as one of the biggest crimes.
To our utter shock, even after displaying Liangmai Naga' tag in front of the gates and Kukis living as neighbours, the Liangmai house was burnt down," it added.
It also conveyed, "As if the incident was not enough, it has been observed that some vested individuals have been throwing weight or blaming others on various social media platforms to add enmity to the situation" .
Disseminating rumours or blaming others for any wrongdoing is not the ethics of Christians and tribal culture, it added.
