Imphal, April 14 2024:
Congress candidate Dr Bimol Akoijam has stated that time has come to unmask the faces of some hypocritical patriots who are claiming to love the motherland.
An interaction programme with Congress candidate Dr Bimol Akoijam was held at the residence of MPCC secretary Dr S Manaoton at Mekola on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, Dr Bimol condemned the threats meted out to him, but affirmed his stand to contest the polls no matter what.
He continued that while he had never stepped into politics, he had been speaking and advising on the welfare of the state and its people for many years.
He recounted that he had been advising the people tq stand against money and muscle power in elections, and added that he will stand by this advice as a candidate.
Dr Bimol then urged for engaging in righteous campaigns instead of narrow minded politics, while appealing to the mothers of the state to ensure a free and fair election in all polling booths.
MPCC ex-president N Loken questioned if the people should elect the BJP candidate, who is allegedly being fielded with some hidden agreements.
He then said that it is up to the people to decide whether to pave the way for Manipur's future or extinguish the same.
He continued that with the elections drawing near, BJP is engaging in numerous tricks.
Earlier, it tried to garner votes of the people by spreading propaganda of boycotting the polls.
At present, it is using armed groups to threaten the people not to cast their votes for Congress.
All of these are not good for the society and the people, he added.
Loken further said that the government has no interest in alleviating the suffering of the people.
Its interest lie in continuing to control the seat of power.
Recently, Kuki militants have begun attacking the people again.
If the people cast their votes to BJP amidst such a situation, it would seem to the world that the people of Manipur can be bought with money, he stated.
He then speculated that BJP will not win more than 5000 votes in any constituency.
Earlier, prospective candidates used to chase for BJP tickets, but now the party is searching for candidates to allot its tickets.
As no candidate came forward, the CM became a prospective candidate but the latter made some agreements and another candidate is being fielded.
The people need to discuss whether a candidate, who has been fielded with certain conditions, will work for their welfare or not, he remarked.
The programme was attended by Congress MLAs K Ranjit, Th Lokeshwar and prominent members of INDIA Bloc.
