Governor exhorts RIMS to serve patients with compassion

Governor La Ganesan inaugurated two 10 Kilo Litre (KL) Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) plants of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday.
Speaking at the inauguration function held at RIMS Jubilee Hall, Governor Ganesan expressed that operation of two plants marks another significant event in the rejuvenation of one of the premier medical institutes in NE region.
He acknowledged that RIMS Imphal is one great healthcare institution which stands out not only in NE states but also among other states of the country.
Ganesan said he came to the event not only for inauguration but to encourage all to continue pursuing the excellence that everyone knows this place is capable of.
The Governor further stated that RIMS over many years has done the nation a great service by producing many qualified young doctors and specialists to contribute in health care sector.
During the early days of its establishment RIMS was known as the Regional Medical College (RMC) and was a highly respected health care institu tion even then, he recalled.
He also emphasised that doctors and medical students alike should extend their expertise to patients irrespective of class and status.
"It is, indeed, a matter of great satisfaction that the RIMS has these two 10KL Liquid Medical Oxygen Plants which is quite indispensable at this critical juncture of COVID-19 pandemic.
This will really be a great relief on the part of the authorities as RIMS itself experienced untold hardships during the peak period of COVID", Ganesan said.
He also appreciated the current management, especially director Dr A Santa Singh and all staff of RIMS for taking initiatives for the welfare of the emerging professionals.
With reference to RIMS Nurses Association expressing their gratitude to the director for the constant support and encouragement rendered to doctors, nurses and attendants, Ganesan commended Dr Santa for providing free vaccines against COVID-19 and allowing nurses to quarantine after their duty.
He further advised doctors, nurses and young medical students to take advantage of the continuous endeavours of the present government to augment health care infrastructure.
He also quoted Dr Abdul Kalam's A dream is not one that which you see in your sleep, it is something that does not let you to sleep' to exhort the medical fraternity to give their best in the serving to the society.
In his address, Prof A Santa Singh said that inauguration of two LMO plants by the' Governor is part of the preparation for tackling fresh wave of Covid-19, if any.
He also highlighted achievements and activities of the institute through power point presentation.
The programme was also attended by RIMS medical superintendent prof N Sanjib Singh, doctors and nurses of RIMS.
