Amit Shah's remark testifies centre's perspective: COCOMI

Imphal, September 20 2023: Outrightly disapproving the remark of Union home minister Amit Shah, reportedly made to a group of Manipur MLAs to pacify Meira Paibis against staging street protests, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) said Amit Shah's statement was akin to a spearing the heart of the entire people of Manipur.

Amit Shah had reportedly assured a group state MLAs, who called on him some days back, to end the violence in Manipur within 10 days if Meira Paibis are stopped from staging street protest and do not disrupt movement of his forces.

Reacting sharply to the reported remark of Amit Shah, a COCOMI statement said Amit Shah's statement clearly de picts government of India's stand and perspective of the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

Amit Shah must understand that Meetei community is well aware of how the crisis began as well as objective of the war against the community.

Amit Shah's attitude not only clearly exposed New Delhi's indifferent attitude towards the Meetei community but was also an attempt to implicate the community already victimised by their administration to cover up secret policy and weakness of central government.

Such attempts would not help in ending the crisis but would rather compel the Meetei community to comprehend that the central government would create more chaos, COCOMI said and called Amit Shah's remark as irresponsible.

According to the COCOMI statement issued by its media coordinator Somorendro Thokchom, Meeteis do not trust Indian security forces particularly the Assam Rifles as the paramilitary force has failed to launch crack down on Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.

There are enough evidences of the partisan role of the Assam Rifles in the ongoing war, COCOMI claimed adding that all the incidents of killing and torching of Meetei houses in Moreh, Sugnu-Serou, Churachandpur, Torbung and Phougakchao were right in front of para-military units.

Meetei houses of Prem Nagar in Moreh torched by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists were only 20 feet away from the AR post.

As personnel of the force remained silent spectators when unalawful acts were committed in front of their eyes how would the Meetei community trust such a partisan armed force, the COCOMI questioned.

When security forces deployed in Manipur for protection of life and properties of the people side with Chin-Kuki narco-terrorist and open fire towards innocent people, it is natural for the people to come out for self-defence.

This is also legitimate rights of the people and not against the Indian state or disruption of security forces from executing their duties, the COCOMI said adding that women come out on the streets as a reaction to unwarranted acts of Indian security forces.
