Imphal, December 16 2024:
Amit Shah's contradictory behaviour is fast eroding the trust of the indigenous people, particularly those in the northeast region, towards the central government, thereby deterring the people of the region from aligning themselves with the country, according to Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
In a press release issued by its media coordinator Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman on Monday, COCOMI alleged that while the conflict has been raging for over 19 months, the double-engine government has been making various claims of trying to put an end to the conflict.
However, these are just attempts to confuse and befool the people.
"After all, everyone is aware that the Indian government, with a hidden agenda, has orchestrated a proxy war by using the Kuki militants," it contended.
The Committee continued that while the narrative spun by the state government was mostly accepted by the people, the central government made up another narrative to mislead the people for fuelling the fight between the two communities for a long time.
"The Indian government has allowed terrorist activities such as abduction and killing of civilians, arson, destroying bridges, torturing and killing women and children, use of long range missiles and drone attacks, to continue unpunished" .
Referring Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statements in an interview with India Today journalist Rahul Kanwal during the Agenda Aaj Tak 2024 programme, COCOMI said that Shah had earlier made the same claim that the conflict is between communities and has no terrorism or religious connection.
However, sub-tribes within the Chin-Kuki community had declared that the conflict was caused by illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists.
Several Indian intelligence agencies such as the NIA and IB have corroborated the same, along with top BSF and CRPF officers.
"It is increasingly becoming clear that both the central and state governments have a hidden agenda in trying to prolong the conflict.
The Indian government is trying to portray the conflict as a communal clash so as to save and pull itself out from the entire thing," it remarked.
The release continued that the Chin-Kuki militants have been attacking the indigenous people of the state including innocent civilians so as to realise their dream of a separate administration and cultivate poppies in this land without any restrain.
As such, the people have no choice than to utilise whatever means they have to safeguard their land and the vulnerable.
"If India truly wants to end this conflict, it needs to have a sincere heart and refrain from using the people of Manipur as a sacrificial lamb for its geopolitics," COCOMI stressed.
