Imphal, November 24 2022:
The Directorate of University & Higher Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on Thursday for capacity building of teachers with regard to the 4-year undergraduate course on 'Education' subject in all colleges of the state.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at Room No 1 Conference Hall of Manipur College, Pishum and attended by University & Higher Education director Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, additional director P Shantikumar, SCERT joint director Jim Thingujam and Imphal College principal M Priyabrata as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rangitabali explained that the MoU was signed as part of NEP 2020.NIELIT and Directorate of University & Higher Education are jointly working to teach and update college teachers with Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
So far, teachers of 15 different subjects have been informed of ICT, with education being the latest to be taken up.
Inviting suggestions for other subjects, the director said that questions have been frequently raised by the people particularly from the teaching profession regarding the work taken up by the government and the Directorate since the implementation of NEP.
Although the Directorate is facing shortages in many aspects, it is important to work step-by-step to ensure effective implementation of NEP, she said while urging the teachers to extend their support in this regard.
In his speech, Jim Thingujam stated that SCERT's main function is to prepare the syllabus, curriculum, module, textbooks for Class I-VIII and provide training to teachers in addition to research.
As such, it is a little shocking to learn about providing capacity building for college teachers.
Nonetheless, the MoU has been signed under the premise of increasing the skill level with regard to organising training/workshop on rhymes and toy making from time to time.
He then informed that SCERT has made the necessary preparation to come up with a tentative programme and begin a week-long training from Monday, and appealed to the teachers to start registering for the same from Friday.
