Kanggui, September 18 2013:
In an unfortunate incident which occurred yesterday at Manipur Theological College here, the students of the only College sponsored by Baptist Churches under Manipur Baptist Convention, took the extreme step and resorted to destroying some of the college furniture, window glasses and others to lodge their dissatisfaction over the Internal Assessment Mark in the recently declared 4th Year 1st Semester Examination held on 22nd August, 2013 .
The agitating students are also protesting against against decision of Manipur Theological College Board and the College Council in this regard, and the failure of the concerned authority to address their grievances.
At around 3 pm yesterday, around 40/50 students of the College situated some 5 Km.
away from Kangpokpi at Mission Campus under Kangpokpi Ward No.10 started destroying some of the college furniture.
As soon as the news of the incident spread, a team of Kangpokpi Police personnel led by its OC L.Vaiphei rushed in and tried their level best to control the situation from going out of hand.
Speaking to media person at the college campus, President of Students' Union of the College Phamtuhring said that the concerned authority including the MTC Board and the College Council have compelled the students to take such an extreme agitation.
Narrating the reasons behind the unfortunate incident, Phamtuhring lamented that one Wungnaowung Zimik, a lecturer of the College gave 15 marks each equally to all the 18 aspiring candidate in the recently declared 4th Year 1st Semester Examination in his two subject namely Homiletics and Liturgy & Music in the Internal Assessment Mark which is just 1 mark below the Pass Mark.
In this regard, the Students' Union had approached the College Principal and put forward the matter for clarification and demanded the reason behind the injustice done to the students by the concerned teacher.
The agitated students also demanded the expulsion of the said teacher.
However, instead of addressing the grievances of the students, College Council maintained that they do not have the rights to expel the said teacher.
Accordingly, the students' union took up matter with the Manipur Theological Board.
Subsequently, a joint meeting was held at the college, but no solution could be brought about, as the Board members insisted the students to forgive the teachers without any concern for the career of the students and their legitimate demand.
The students were also told to get their No Objection Certificate/Transfer Certificate if they were willing to leave the College, Phamtuhring recounted.
