Imphal, July 09 2023: The "Manipur Women Convention on Manipur Cri-sis" has demanded convening of a special session of the Ma-nipur assembly within 5 days and chalk out strategies to bring an end to the 2-month long crisis in the state.

The convention held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen here on Sunday with DM College of Arts principal Dr Chungkham Sheelaramani and attend-ed by women from various parts of the state adopted 13 resolutions.

The resolutions include serving deadline of 5 days for the state government to convene a special assembly session failing which the women folks will launch intense agitations.

It also demanded the centre to stop occu-pation of Meitei villages by Kuki militants aided by central security forces and provide adequate security to the displaced people; identification of armed Kuki militants under So0 using sophisticated weapons; ask the central government to take up steps to re-store peace in the state and initiate effective measures against the narco- terrorism; and to press authority concerned to implement NRC for identification of illegal immigrants and take up deportation process.

It further resolved that the centre should not endorse the demand for separate ad-ministration or autonomy as Manipur is enlisted in the 5th schedule of Article 244 of the Indian Constitution which prohib-its any form of autonomy to any groups/ community.

As cases of central para -military forces engaging in war activities towards the Meitei community has been reported from the field, the centre should monitor the issue carefully and remove all those security forces from the 'war field' if at all their involvement is confirmed.

The convention also resolved all women organisations to work for common goal and banner; held government of India re-sponsible for the crisis in the state as it had failed to take up any initiative to safeguard the people of the state; all ministers, MLAs and organisations should be prevented from visiting Delhi.

Though the initiative to open schools is welcomed, any untoward incident happening to the students should be the sole responsibility of the government, it declared.

Speaking at the convention, Dr Sheelara-mani pointed out that the crisis in Manipur is due to failure by the state and central governments to take firm action against Kuki militants who are violating So0 ground rules and targeting and killing innocent people.

Not ruling out possibility of a hidden agenda as root cause of the ethnic violence, she contended that it is an open secret that the high profile personalities are reaping out of the crisis.
