An officer confronted with underground activist who came to his office at Lamphel today even as CRPF personnel fired some rounds of guns in the air on hearing gun firing sounds inside the office.
They also nabbed the underground later.
The incident occurred at the office of the state fishery department at Lamphel in Imphal west today at about 12.45 pm.
The underground activist was later identified as Moirangthem Anand (23) son of late Achou of Chingamakha of KCP (Noyon) group.
Residents of the nearby area were frighten when the firing took place assuming that an exchange of fire occurred inside the fishery office.
Later, normalcy was restored in the office when Lamphel police arrived and took away the nabbed cadre from the CRPF's custody.
Four activists of KCP today came to the office of the fishery department and one of them entered to the office room of the District Fishery Officer (DFO) H Biramani who is also looking the charge of the Project Coordinator of National Fisheries Development Block (NFDB).
The other four were seen waiting at the gate of the office, the repor mentioned.
It was reported that a brawl erupted between the activist and the officer when the activist pressed him on certain matter possibly on money demanded from the office.
When the activist forced Biramani to obey what he said, Biramani took out his license gun and fire some rounds in the air and alarmed the security personnel present nearby.
CRPF personnel in the camp immediately swung into action and rushed to the spot.
They fired some rounds in the air before cordon off the office.
They conducted search operation to the office at once and rounded up the activist from inside a room where he ran into when the officer fire his gun.
When the security personnel rushed to the spot, the other three, who were at the gate of the office, vanished with no direction, eyewitness accounts said.
Later, officials of the department said that the activist came to the office when Biramani was about to leave the office on his vehicle.
The two have talked at the verandah of the office.
When the officer took out his license gun and fired some rounds in the air, the activist rushed inside a room where he was later caught by the security personnel.
In another unrelated incident, the office chamber of the chairperson of the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) was locked down by suspected activists of United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) reportedly on extortion demand from the council.
The office was locked down with keypad in the morning of June 16 last, at about 7 am.
Imphal city police has taken up a suo-motu case and started investigation into the case, police said adding that the lock had also been broken.
