Imphal, June 15 2023: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that the existing tension is between the Government and those people who came to the State illegally and added that the Mizo National Front (MNF) has no business in the internal affairs of Manipur.

MNF should refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Manipur, he said.

There are Manipuri people in Assam whose population is more or less similar to that of Mizoram.

"How will be the Assam-Manipur relationship if the Manipuri people in Assam demand separate administration and if I support the same demand?", Biren asked.

Speaking to media persons at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today, Biren maintained that the State Government has a firm stance to safeguard the unity and integrity of the State.

The Government will not compromise even an inch of land to any force trying to disturb the State's unity and integrity, he asserted.

N Biren continued that his Government will not do anything which is against the interest of the people and appealed to the public to put faith in its effort to restore normalcy in the State.

Expressing anguish over the unfortunate incident that happened at Khamenlok, the Chief Minister strongly condemned both the burning of houses and killing of people.

He informed that search and combing operations are being carried out at different places including Kurangpat and Yaingangpokpi by a team consisting of paramilitary forces and Manipur Police to nab the culprits, adding that stringent actions would be taken against those involved in such heinous crime.

Although the criminals could not be apprehended so far, six improvised pipe bombs have been recovered, he said.

He maintained that search operations had been conducted in 41 villages of hill areas and 39 villages adjoining valley areas.

N Biren reiterated that the tension is between the Government and those people who have entered the State illegally.

He asserted that some vested interest groups are trying to portray it as clashes between two communities, creating a wall between the communities.

He appealed to the people of both the communities to render support in restoring trust and faith between the communities.

The Chief Minister further appealed to the public to not believe in rumours and unverified information which would escalate tensions among different communities, adding that some vested interest groups are spreading rumours to escalate tensions.

He also appealed to the public not to block movement of security forces, as it hampers timely reinforcement in vulnerable areas, adding that the security forces have been deployed to ensure safety of the public.

He also lamented that prevalence of tension in certain areas of the valley has hampered deployment of security forces in the vulnerable foothill areas.

Even though the strength of State police is not enough, there are now adequate numbers of Central forces, Biren said.

Moreover, a passing out parade of 304 newly recruited State force personnel was held yesterday.

"What is the point of creating tension at Imphal?" Biren asked.

A large number of security forces who otherwise should be fighting armed militants, are being engaged in controlling mobs at Imphal, he said.

Security measures have been put in place at Churachandpur areas inhabited by Meiteis and Imphal areas inhabited by Kukis He further urged the public not to carry out sale and purchase of land which belong to the displaced people, adding that trust among the people of the two communities will be restored.

Strict action will be taken against those who are involved in such activities, he said.

All the displaced people will return to their homes once the situation is brought under control.

Biren categorically stated that the Mizo National Front (MNF) has no business in the internal affairs of Manipur.

MNF should refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of Manipur.

There are Manipuri people in Assam whose population is more or less similar to that of Mizoram.

"How will be the Assam-Manipur relationship if the Manipuri people in Assam demand separate administration and if I support the same demand?", Biren asked.

Taking serious note of the certain statements made by some people/groups in Mizoram, Biren asked the Mizoram Government to control those elements in time.

The State Government has been considering to re-open schools from June 21, he said.

Appealing to all the people to abstain from all forms of violence, the Chief Minister conveyed solidarity to all the affected people.
