Imphal, July 09 2023: A women's convention christened Manipur Women Convention held today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Konung Mamang resolved to see that a special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly is convened within five days.

The convention held at the initiative of Lukmai Sellup adopted 13 resolutions including creation of a united front for all women organisations of the State.

The Government of India should bear responsibility for all the violence, killings and arson witnessed in the State since May 3, reads one of the resolutions.

Putting an immediate halt to occupation/domination of Meitei villages and adjoining areas by Kuki militants and Central forces was another resolution of the convention.

Another resolution said that the Government of India should take up strong actions against narco-trade and cross-border terrorists.

Kuki militants should be disarmed and an effective policy should be implemented for identification and deportation of illegal immigrants.

Demands for greater autonomy or separate administration should not be entertained.

Assam Rifles and other Central forces involved in attacking Meitei villages should be withdrawn from conflict zones.

Facilitating return of the displaced people to their original homes with adequate security arrangement and enabling farmers to carry on agricultural activities by deploying adequate security forces were some other resolutions of the convention.

Dhanamanjuri University, Dean of Humanities Dr Chungkham Sheelaramani who moderated the convention decried that multiple fault lines have been created in Manipur on account of the Government of India's parochial outlook.

With several women organisations undertaking separate movements without any coordination, it appears that the strong force of Manipuri women has been fragmented, she remarked.

Noting that many women of Meitei Pangal and Kabui communities are taking part in the ongoing women's movements, Dr Sheelaramani underlined the fact that unity is strength and also the growing need for all women organisations to expand their outlook and perspective.

Questioning the failure of the Government to rein in the rampaging Kuki militants under SoO, Dr Sheelaramani expressed strong suspicion of possible presence of a secret agenda behind the SoO pact.
