Time for all Lups to unite: PAPPM
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 06 2023: It is time for all Lups (organisations) to unite and collectively understand the true nature of the present conflict and thwart any attempt to disintegrate Manipur, said People's Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM) .

All Lups must unite under one banner to lead the people, it said.

In a statement released to the media.

PAPPM said it is clear that the aggressive attacks being carried out by the Kuki militants at the Meitei villages in the foothills are efforts to occupy and demarcate a boundary based on their demand for a separate administration.

The terrors unleashed upon the people and attacks on the Meitei villages in the outskirts of the valley area since May 3 are carried out by the Kuki militants backed by their supporters.

Their attacks on the villages at Torbung, Motbung, Churachandpur and Moreh prove that they want to drive away Meitei villagers and keep occupying the settlements.

This is their attempt to occupy land and demarcate boundaries for their separate Kukiland/adminis-tration, said PAPPM.

Explaining the Kuki militants' tactics, PAPPM said, they [Kuki militants] would first fire indiscriminately and bum down some houses at the villages injuring and killing men, women and children to scare off all villagers.

When the villagers fled, they would then bum down all the houses and keep occupying the land.

What the Kuki militants and groups that are backing them want is to scare off the villagers from the foothills and occupy their land.

And, ip the process, they want the angry Meitei people to act rashly, retaliate and kill unarmed Kuki men, women and children so that they can exhibit such revenge attacks as atrocities committed by the Meitei community against the Kukis, said PAPPM.

To successfully face the conflict and thwart all their attempts to achieve or form a separate administration, all organisations and the people should clearly understand the underlying meaning of their attacks on the Meitei villages in the outskirts of the valley, it said.

The people's alliance (PAPPM) continued that while Kuki militants are attacking the Meitei settlements to occupy land, they are secretly scheming to incite communal violence.

They want Meitei to retaliate with full force to convert the Meitei Vs Kuki militants conflict to Meitei Vs Kuki communal violence.

"We should be very careful in our planning and actions.

The conflict is not between us and the Kuki community as they want to portray before the world.

They want us to kill Kuki civilians, women and children in retaliation to their attacks on our villages and show it as atrocities committed by us to the outside world.

We must remember that the conflict is between us and the Kuki militants.

We must not fall prey to such traps," said PAPPM.

Reiterating that their (Kuki militants and their supporters) objective is to incite communal violence, PAPPM said Meitei people must act consciously and fight only the Kuki militants.

"We must defend our villages and the people and fight only the Kuki militants and avoid harming unarmed Kuki women and children.

We must never fall to their shallow traps," said PAPPM.

Village guards should be constituted in all localities with clear instructions and resolve to defend the Meitei villages and fight only the Kuki militants.

When the Meitei people take such a resolute stance, their plan to incite communal violence will fail and only the Kuki militants will be left attacking the Meitei villages.

This will naturally unveil their ugly acts of terrorism to the outside world and their plan will fall short, said PAPPM.

While collectively facing the Kuki militants, their true nature must be shown to the world.

It must be shown that the Kuki militants are narco-terrorists who are sponsored and supported by the poppy/drug cartels, added PAPPM.

It urged all to support volunteers and guards who are defending villages in the outskirts of the valley and demanded the Kuki' militants to stop attacking villages and civilians.
