Imphal, October 02 2024:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked the Centre and the State Government to take full responsibility for all eventuality if they fail to rescue the two Meetei youths who are in the custody of Kuki militants within two days.
Notably, three Meetei youths namely Ningombam Johnson, Oinam Thoithoi and Thokchom Thoithoiba, all from Thoubal Khekman were abducted by Kuki militants on September 27 while they were going to New Keithelmanbi where a recruitment rally of Assam Rifles was held.
Instead of going to the venue of the recruitment drive at New Keithelmanbi, the trio headed to Kanglatongbi side on a motorcycle instead and ended up venturing at a Kuki inhibited area which has become unsafe for Meeteis to traverse.

While Johnson has been rescued, the other two remain in the custody of Kuki militants.
Speaking to the media at its office at Lamphelpat today, assistant coordinator of COCOMI's women wing RK Tharaksana said that there is no sign of the Centre and the State Government taking up any initiative to stop the hostilities of Kuki militants till date despite the latter resorting to drone bombing, rocket attacks and abducting civilians.
She also said that both the Governments have failed miserably to protect the lives and properties of the people.
Saying that taking people hostages for ransom is an act of terrorism, Tharaksana urged the Centre and the State Government to rescue the two youths within two days (October 4) and hand them over to their families.
She further said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh should ensure the safety of the two youths.
