Use of social media for humanitarian aid stressed

(LMG), a social media page
dedicated to humanitarian
services, celebrated its 3rd
foundation at Manipur Press
Club, here, on Tuesday.
The function was attended by Editors' Guild Manipur president Khogendra
Khomdram, LMG president L Kunjeshwor Sharma and LMG chief advisor
Wangkhemcha Shamjai as
chief guest, president and
guest of honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote
address, secretary Ojit
Sorokhaibam stated that
apart from LMG dedicated
to humanitarian services, its
members have been making
monthly contribution of Rs
100 to extend help to the
needy people.
Informing that the foundation day celebration spanning three days was marked
by tree plantation on the first
day, followed by distribution
of essential commodities to children's homes and conduct of the general body
meeting along with election of new office bearers
on Tuesday, he stressed the
importance on translating
into action the popular slogan of striving together and
reaching out to those in need
of help.
Noting that advent of the
social media has made the
world a global village as a
single post about grief or
sorrow often sees benevolent individuals coming
forward to provide necessary support, Ojit expressed
satisfaction that presence of
such noble- hearted persons
ensure that those unable to
afford medical treatment receive help through collective
efforts and contributions.
While pointing out the
need for all to extend support and help those people
in need, he urged generous
individuals to become LMG
members and help the group
grow to sustain serving the
needy people.
The secretary also highlighted the benefits of using
smartphones to aid others
and encouraged everyone
to utilise this technology for
humanitarian purposes.
