MU serves as knowledge partner at International conference

The 3rd International Conference on "Kalinga and South East Asia Civilisational Connect" was held on May 24 & 25, 2025 at Hotel Swosti Premium, Bhubaneswar.
The event was organised by Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Government of Odisha, Institute of Media Studies with Manipur University (MU) serving as the knowledge partner.
As per a release issued by Manipur University, the conference brought together distinguished scholars, researchers, and cultural historians to deliberate on the rich and enduring civilisational links between ancient Kalinga (modern-day Odisha) and South East Asia.
The discussions focused on maritime trade, religious exchanges, cultural diplomacy, and strategic relevance of these connections in the present geopolitical context.
Representing Manipur University, Dr Kshetrimayum Narayan Singh, Department of South East Asian Studies, presented a research paper titled "India's Cultural Footprints in Southeast Asia: From Ancient to Contemporary Contact", highlighting India's historical influence across Southeast Asia through language, religion, and shared traditions.
Dr Loitongbam Bishanjit Singh from the same department presented a paper titled "Eastern Gateways: Odisha's Strategic Role in Strengthening India's Act East Policy", focusing on Odisha's geopolitical and cultural relevance in bolstering India's modem strategic engagement with the East.
The chief guest of the valedictory function was the Governor of Odisha, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, who commended the organisers for promoting academic collaboration and cultural research that bridges ancient history with modem policy initiatives.
He emphasized the significance of understanding historical civilisational links in fostering regional harmony and strengthening India's foreign policy frameworks.
The conference served as a dynamic platform for academic exchange and reinforced the importance of cultural connectivity in shaping India's present and future relationships with Southeast Asia.
