Imphal, November 16 2024:
The BJP-led Government in Manipur may face rebellion soon as a group of MLAs and Ministers have reportedly held discussion to resign en masse.
This development comes amid the widespread protests against the brutal murder of three women and three children after they were taken captive by Kuki militants.
Meanwhile, MLA Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC) told The Sangai Express that he would submit his resignation letter to the State Assembly Secretariat at 1 pm on November 17.Though The Sangai Express could not independently verify the exact number of MLAs and Ministers who are planning to resign, reports said that most of the legislators who submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister last month to restore normalcy in Manipur are part of the group.
Speaking to this reporter, some of these MLAs said that they are considering resigning en-masse as there is no point for them to stay in power if they could not even protect the lives of women and children.
They also said that staying as legislators would be meaningless since they have failed to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Saying that they submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister to end the crisis last month but there is no response from the Prime Minister's Office till now, the MLAs maintained that they are considering to resign together as Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Central leadership haven't taken up any concrete measure to resolve the protracted crisis.
Further stating that Manipur has become a lawless State despite having BJP Government at both New Delhi and the State, the MLAs accused the BJP Government of not taking the issue in Manipur seriously.
They also accused the Chief Minister of not seeking an audience with the Prime Minister deliberately even though the State has been burning since the last eighteen months.
If he wants, the Chief Minister can lead all the ruling MLAs and Ministers to New Delhi and mount pressure on the Centre together to clear the restive atmosphere prevailing in Manipur.
The MLAs continued that they are in touch with some more like minded MLAs to resign en masse.
This is not the time to cling on to the seat of power, the MLAs said while assuring that they would be with people at these times of crisis to safeguard Manipur.
The MLAs and Ministers who submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister last month are Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata (Yaiskul), Thongam Biswajit (Thongju), Yumnam Khemchand (Singjamei), Dr Thokchom Radheshyam (Heirok), Khumukcham Joykisan (Thangmeiband), Tongbram Robindro (Thanga), Sorokhaibam Rajen (Lamsang), Paonam Brojen (Wangjing Tentha), Lourembam Rameshwar (Keirao), Kongkham Robindro (Mayang Imphal), Sanasam Premchandra (Kumbi), Dr Yumnam Radheshyam (Hiyanglam), Sanasam Kebi (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa), Khumukcham Raghumani (Uripok), Md Achab Uddin (Jiribam), Sheikh Noorul Hassan (Kshetrigao), Md Abdul Nassir (Lilong), N Kayisii (Tadubi) and Sapam Nishikanta (Keishamthong) .
