Elucidating on the condition and understanding that led to the signing of Cessation of Operation (CoO) with the governments of India and Manipur, Zeliangrong United Front has stated that the agreement is the way forward to a lasting and early settlement of the long-drawn aspiration of Zeliangrong community for a secured homeland.
In a statement, ZUF informed that after a series of informal talks with the Government of India, both sides drew a distinct mutual understanding on the matter of Zeliangrong political issue.
After thorough reasoning and deliberations as to how and why Zeliangrong United Front was determined and compelled to take up the ZPC movement, the Gol came to understand about the factual political rights and history of struggle that have long been ignored and neglected and resurfaced as it is today.
Having established the mutual trust and understanding on the issues in hand and circumstances leading to signing the Cessation of Operation of armed activities of ZUF and Indian military organisations against each other and to enter into political talk with the GOI, the Cessation of Operation (CoO) Agreement was signed on December 27 last year, ZIUF explained.
It further informed that the Front, in its process of informal rounds of talks with GOI since 2020 till the time of the signing of the agreement, had maintained and observed cordial and mutual understanding and relation.
Both sides have established the confidence that talk for peace and development can be possible only under conducive and peaceful environment.
The agreement was made to bring about lasting peace and work towards all round development and fulfilment of overall aspirations of the Zeliangrong people.
"The agreement is only the pre-condition for talk and not the content of the political talk.
It was established in principle, keeping the trust and mutuality of both sides to work out the process of negotiating the political issues for lasting and early settlement of the long-drawn aspiration of our Ranima Gaidinliu and her people for a secured homeland," it added.
The Front expressed hope that an early and lasting solution will be worked out with the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"We express our deepest and truest gratitude and appreciation to leaders, who took keen interest and noble concern for the long depraved and under developed people of the region by taking up the matter to the attention, recognising and understanding at the highest level.
We also convey our deep appreciation and gratitude to Chief Minister N Biren for his concern and love shown towards our people and for taking the initiative to reach out to make things work for peace and bring greater understanding of our issues and people," the statement concluded.
