Imphal, August 16 2023: The High Court of Manipur will hear a PIL seeking extension of time for filing Income Tax Return tomorrow.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by Narendra Kumar Sharma and others complained that the people of Manipur were not able to file ITR for Financial Year 2022-2023 (Assessment Year 2023-24) due to non-availability of Internet service amid the current unrest.

The last date for filing income tax return (ITR) for the assessment year 2023-24 was July 31, 2023 .

It noted that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had requested the Finance Ministry to consider extension of time for filing return of income for persons residing in the State of Manipur on July 24 .

However, neither the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) nor the Finance Ministry has taken any concrete step to mitigate the problems of the people of Manipur.
