Public urged to reject contract-driven politics

Sagolband MLA RK Imo Singh inaugurated the Babupara Nupi Samaj Lamjing Lup multipurpose community hall on Sunday at Babupara, Ward No 24 under Sagolband Assembly Constituency The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including G Bino, RK Jiten Singh, Salam Tiken Singh, and corporators of Ward No 24, 7, and 10.Mandal president Dr Ruhiksanta Sharma and former Ward No 8 corporator Kangabam Tiken Singh were also present, along with a large number of local residents and community leaders.
In his address, RK Imo Singh reflected on his political journey, recalling how Sagolband was once regarded as a constituency resistant to first-time candidates.

He noted his own electoral success, having been elected in his first attempt and subsequently re-elected for two consecutive terms.
"This is not just a personal milestone, but a shared achievement based on the trust of the people," he stated.
Emphasising the importance of responsible leadership, he urged voters to choose representatives who are closely connected to the community and committed to public service.
"We must reject contract-driven politics and those hungry for portfolios over public service," he said, adding, "If I ever stop working for the people, do not vote for me either" - a remark that drew strong applause from the audience.
As part of his ongoing development initiatives, the MLA announced the forthcoming installation of a rooftop solar power system to provide free electricity for street lighting in Babupara over the next 20 years.
He mentioned that the project had previously been delayed due to the lack of a suitable site - an issue that has now been resolved.
He also encouraged the Babupara community to consider forming a broader local committee or club to work in coordination with Nupi Samaj, in order to ensure community concerns can be addressed swiftly and effectively.
Imo Singh highlighted a series of infrastructure and welfare improvements across the constituency.
Among them is the construction of new drainage systems in Paona Bazar and parts of Kakhulong, a key measure to mitigate recurring flash floods.
Major roads in Ward No 24 - including Paona Bazar, Masjid Road, Nambul River Banks, and Keishamthong - are being upgraded with rigid concrete pavements, while internal roads not covered under this project are being blacktopped to enhance connectivity and accessibility.
Additionally, a free health camp will soon be organised at the new community hall to provide vital medical services to local residents, elaborated the MLA.
He also pointed to significant advancements in water supply infrastructure, noting that areas such as Paona Bazar, Kakhulong, and Keisamthong Khul, which have long struggled with shortages, are now experiencing substantial improvements.
