It is shameful that most people in Manipur have not been able to see the State bird Nongin, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr S Singsit has stated.
He was speaking as chief guest of the concluding function of the capacity strengthening training programme for wild birds' monitoring and wild life management at the conference hall of Forest Development Agency at Mantripukhri yesterday.
The training programme was organised by Wild Life Wing of Forest Department, Government of Manipur.
Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Anilkumar presided over the function which was also attended by Assistant Director of Bombay Natural History Society Dr S Balachandra as guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Singsit observed that most people in Manipur have not seen Nongin, the State bird.
This is shameful and unfortunate.
So, staff and officials of the Department should make efforts to ensure that Nongin are kept at the State Zoological Garden so that the public could see it.
Certificates were distributed among the participates of the five day long training programme at the occasion.
