Imphal, June 06 2010:
While appealing to all section of the society to participate in the Great June Uprising observance on June 18 at Kekrupat memorial site, United Committee Manipur has said ahead of the annual observation a meeting of its units would be held on June 8 at 10 am at its Lamphelpat office.
A UCM release issued by its IPR secretary Kh Nilamani Khanganba said participation of the public in offering tributes to 18 persons who laid down their lives to protect territorial integrity of Manipur has become even more essential as the threat to the emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur is gaining momentum.
Alleging that the Centre's indifferent attitude and biased policy had triggered the Naga-Kuki clash in early 90s that claimed nearly 1000 lives, UCM contended that Naga-appeasement policy of the Central Government resulted in the premature demises of 18 persons during the course of the tumultuous movement launched by the people of Manipur from june 14, 2001 onward.
The threat to Manipur's territorial integrity still persists after the Centre approved NSCN (IM) general secretary Th muivah's visit to Manipur, Nilamani maintained.
