Koireng-led UNLF, KYKL salute martyred revolutionaries

The Koireng-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) informed that one each cadre of the two organisations lost their lives during a fierce gun-battle with the combined team of India's 'Mayang Lanmee' and KNA-B on January 30 at about 1.30pm along the Manipur-Myanmar border.
Identifying the fallen cadres as captain Chirom Chiromcha alias Rob-indro (MPA No.1655/26) of UNLF/MPA and private Moirangthem Sushil alias Athouba of KYKL/MYL, a joint statement of the Koireng led UNLF and KYKL said both the revolutionaries died when a combined force of revolutionaries conducting area domination exercise in between Border Pillar (BP)-82 and BP-83 was ambushed by a combined team of India's 'Mayang Lanmee' and KNA-B .

According to the joint statement, captain Chirom Chiromcha was leading the team as part of the ongoing gun-battle between a combined force of revolutionaries and India's proxy force KNA-B along the Kamjong-Myanmar border since January 27 .
When the combined force was nearing Wokshu village in Myanmar, KNA-B ambushed the captain Chiromcha-led team leading to a fierce gun-battle including use of rockets and lathode bombs lasting for more than 30 minutes.
The team killed more than eight enemies but lost two precious revolutionaries, captain Chiromcha and private Athouba.
Highlighting the life and legacy of the duo, the joint statement said captain Chirom Chiromcha was born on December 29, 1981 to Chirom Gunindro and Memcha of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai, Imphal West.
Chiromcha passed class X and XII from N Tomchou higher secondary school and took part in activities of local club and Meira Paibis while studying.
While pursuing graduation at Manipur College, Chiromcha joined All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU).
Later, he enrolled into UNLF in 2003 and held many key positions including as staff officer at party chairman's office in Bangladesh's Sylhet attache, commander of Lamtai Khunou Special Area (LAKSA), staff sergeant at CHQ-GS office, staff officer since 2014 and commander of Moreh Special Zone.
In view his immense responsibility for the organisation including during the difficult time of internal crisis, captain Chiromcha was recognised by the party's central committee, inducted as party's central cadre in 2021 and allotted captain rank.
The joint statement further said that private Athouba (21) was the only son of Moirangthem Kiran and Memcha of Sugnu Awang Leikai.
He joined KYKL in 2024 and became Meeyamgi Yawol Lanmi (MYL) cadre after completing Basic Military Training.
Athouba was known for his bravery and leadership skills and contributed significantly to the revolutionary movement.
The joint statement further said that sacrifices of Chiromcha and Athouba were crucial in the ongoing struggle for regaining the lost sovereignty of Manipur and the void left by them in UNLF and KYKL will be hard to fill.
The joint statement of also extended revolutionary salute to the two fallen revolutionaries and shared pain and grief of their families.
