Flood havoc in Senapati, cops join rescue efforts

Senapati, June 01 2025:
With incessant rainfall continuing to lash Senapati district, low lying areas in and around the Senapati township and Karong areas have been inundated on Sunday.
Residents in the flood affected localities informed that the water level rose to above chest height last night with the same trend continuing till Sunday morning.
With the wooden bridge connecting Viewland colony and Angkailongdi flooded, residents are facing hard times while livestock including pigs, chicken, and pets were washed away due to the flash flood occurring for two consecutive days.
Water level of the Barak River tributaries has also risen sharply on Sunday morning submerging areas in and around the Barak River at Karong.

Over 50 families settling nearby the Barak River have been relocated to Khabung Karong community hall.
The flood waters have also submerged large tract of paddy fields with the farmers expressing impossibility of agricultural activities this year due depositing of the stone pebbles brought by the river water.
Landslides and mudslides along NH-2 occurred at different locations in the district headquarters but were cleared later in the afternoon, facilitating operation of vehicles.
Meanwhile, under the supervision of superintendent of police, Senapati and command of additional SP (NH Security), Senapati district police successfully carried out rescue operations in the localities of River colony, Yaopao colony and Viewland.
Sources said that the entire police force was deployed to assist the distressed public, ensuring their safety and well-being since the early hours of May 31 .
During the operation, non-local families and local residents were rescued by OC, Senapati police station.
All the police personnel worked tirelessly to clear multiple mudslides and landslides on all three national highways that run through the district, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
The Maram-Peren Road (NH 129A) was completely cut off on May 30 due to landslides.
District police personnel rescued stranded persons along the route.
Minor accidents occurred during this period, but the police provided assistance to accident victims along NH-2.The district police are also strictly monitoring prices of essential commodities and cautioned of taking legal action against those found hoarding or indulging in price manipulation.
Issuing Traffic Advisory as per the conveyance by the Kohima (Nagaland) district administration, the district police said all Manipur-bound trucks and those heading to Nagaland will be halted at designated locations.
Light motor vehicles are advised to take BSF Camp-Chakhabama-Kidima-Viswema/Mao gate route.
The district police also expressed sincere appreciations to all the CSOs, drivers and vehicle associations operating in the district, Red Cross Society and members of public who are volunteering to help the distressed people affected by the natural calamity.
The Senapati SP also urged citizens to remain cautious and cooperate with the police to ensure public safety, assuring to continue to work tirelessly to maintain order and provide assistance during any challenging period.
