Remove central forces from Langol: Meira Paibi

Imphal, September 21 2023: Meira Paibis of Meetei Langol area have warned of launching intense agitation in coordination with CSOs of the state if the central forces deployed in the area are not withdrawn at the earliest.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, 91-Meetei Langol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup executive member Soibam Memcha said that central paramilitary forces deployed in Meetei Langol are terrorising local people though there has been no major incident of violence in the area.

Nevertheless, the Meeteis of the locality particularly Meira Paibis have been keeping strict vigil to prevent unwanted incident in the area day and night ever since the violence erupted on May 3.However, central forces deployed in the area frequently question the Meira Paibis when to end the night vigil and even forced to switch off street lamps thereby creating fear among the locals.

These acts of the central forces are creating uneasy situation with the locals apprehensive of moving out of their homes after dusk, she said and expressed displeasure over highhandedness of the central forces.

While asserting that Meeteis of Langol want to live peacefully and Meira Paibis of the locality have been peacefully resolving any issue since May 3, Memcha said that there has been no incident of killing in Meetei Langol area.

Meanwhile, demanding release of all the five village volunteers arrested by police, she said that Meira Paibis of Meetei Langol will support the ongoing public movement against the arrest of the village volunteers.
