Imphal, July 08 2014:
A series of protests have begun from today in Imphal demanding the implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur.
The protests will continue for the next few days to pressure the state government ahead of the State Assembly session which is due to commence from July 11 .
Under the banner of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), sit-in protests were held at Keishampat and at Sangaiprou today.
Convenor of the JCLIPS H Ibotombi Khuman expressed his fear that the railway line would be reaching the state capital soon but since there is no law to protect the local population from being decimated by the large scale influx of non-locals.

So, the situation of Manipur is grim, Ibotombi said, adding that there should be an Act to safeguard the indigenous people of Manipur.
He also recalled that Manipur Legislative Assembly had already passed a Bill to implement ILP in the state but nothing concrete has been materialised till date.
The JCILP convenor then said the Ministers and MLAs are too weak to give pressure on the Centre for the implementation of the ILP in Manipur.
It is said that in continuation of the protest, volunteers of JCILPS will carry out sit-in protests at Uripok and Singjamei Chingamakha tomorrow while on July 10, they will hold similar sit-in at various places including Thangmeiband.
