Noney, May 31 2025:
Incessant rainfall over the past three days has severely disrupted normal life in Noney district.
While heavy downpour has triggered multiple landslides and mudslides at various locations along National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road), power outages caused by damaged electric lines have added to the plights of the public.
A massive landslide occurred between Awangkhul and Langkhong villages under the jurisdiction of Noney Police Station, rendering the road impassable and leaving numerous vehicles stranded on both sides, awaiting debris clearance.
Similar landslides were reported between Sehjang and Sinam villages in Kangpokpi district, also along NH-37.Even as efforts to clear the debris are underway, with Ganpati Company deploying excavators to restore traffic movement, continued rainfall is reportedly hampering progress due to recurring mudslides.
In a separate incident, a private Bolero jeep reportedly sustained damage from falling rocks at Nungdolan while halted at a landslide site, though no injuries were reported.
Similarly, a Scorpio vehicle belonging to a security convoy escorting trucks on NH-37 was struck by a boulder and damaged, but no casualties have been reported.
Meanwhile, strong winds accompanying the storms have also caused extensive damage to horticulture farms in Tazeikaiphun village and surrounding areas under the Nungba Sub- Division of Noney district.
Several homes were reported damaged or destroyed due to the storm.
Rivers in the region, including the Ijei, Iril, Irang, and Leimatak, have seen a sharp rise in water levels and are now flowing at or above danger marks.
There are concerns that if the heavy rajn persist through the night, the situation may escalate further.
In response, the district administration has issued an advisory urging residents to remain indoors and avoid travel to prevent any untoward incidents.
