AR man shoots colleagues, kills self

Imphal, January 24 2024:
One Assam Rifles personnel opened indiscriminate firing within the camp of 15 Assam Rifles, B Coy at Sajik Tampak and injured six colleagues before shooting himself to death.
The incident took place at around 2.30 am near the Indo-Myanmar border, some 40 Kms away from Chakpikarong police station, sources informed.
A team of Chakpikarong police station rushed to the AR camp on learning about the incident this morning.
At around 2.30 am, Havildar Pauthang Sang from Churachandpur fired indiscriminately toward other Assam Rifles personnel injuring six of them before he shot himself to death.
Soon after the incident, the injured Assam Rifles personnel were evacuated from the spot to 183 Military Hospital, Leimakhong on an Indian Air Force helicopter.
The injured Assam Rifles personnel have been identified as Warrant Officer Ramesh Chandra, Rifleman B Apruba Das, Rifleman Rahul Kumar, Rifleman Pradyut Mondal, Rifleman Mohan Phukan and Rifleman Suraj Kumar Modi.
Warrant Officer Ramesh Chandra who sustained multiple bullet injuries on his hands and legs has been shifted to RIMS Hospital for further treatment and operation.
Ramesh Chandra is presently kept on observation at RIMS (ICU) and he is likely to undergo surgical operation tonight, said the sources.
