Police get custody of accused in SDPO killing case

Imphal, January 24 2024:
The court of special judge NIA, Imphal West remanded Philip Khaikholal Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate, both arrested by a special commando team in connection with the killing of Moreh SDPO Anandkumar, to police custody for six more days.
Philip and Hemkholal were produced before the NIA court through video conferencing with a prayer for six days' police remand for further questioning.
The remand prayer of the police said that both were arrested by a special police commando team deployed in Moreh after conducting an operation on January 15 for their involvement in militant activities.
They were produced before judicial magistrate first class Moreh on January 16 and remanded to police custody.
With the lapse of policy custody on Wednesday, both of them were produced before the NIA court.
Arrested Philip Khaikholal Khongsai joined 14 Assam Regiment in 1999 and retired from service in 2018 and had been working as Moreh Youth Club president, executive member of Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal and leader of Moreh Defence Force.
One country-made pistol along with two live rounds and 10 detonators and fuse were recovered from the possession of Philip Khaikholal Khongsai.
Arrested Hemkholal Mate is currently chief of K Molshang village and finance secretary of Mate Tribe Union.
The IO of the case also submitted to the court that Philip and Hemkholal are mastermind in the assassination of Moreh SDPO Anandkumar on October 31, 2023.After patient hearing of the IO's report, the court remanded both Philip Khaikholal Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate to police custody till January 29 .
