CM vows to unite indigenous communities

Acknowledging that lack of effort and enthusiasm to reach out to one another has been one of the major causes of distrust and disunity among the different communities in the state, chief minister N Biren said that he making all out efforts to cover different regions of the state to strengthen emotional integrity and has been successful so far.
The CM made this remark during the golden jubilee celebration of Popular Union Club (PUC), Kairang Mamang Leikai along with inauguration of the club's stage & gym, and a park on Saturday.
The CM led the congregation in offering floral tributes to the portraits of the deceased members of the club.
Speaking on the occasion, Biren assured that he will do his best to bridge the gap among the indigenous communities and bring emotional integration.
While conceding that he will need the support from the public to achieve the goal, CM Biren said reaching out to community and to the remote areas is crucial for bringing integration.
He also pointed out that organising Sangai Festival events at multiple locations is part of the policy to reach out and unite the people.
Today, the world is looking towards Manipur with a positive outlook and it is the responsibility of the people of the state to keep the momentum by strengthening unity and integrity.
The state has successfully hosted Durand Cup and the government also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to host the grand finale of Femina Miss India in Imphal.
All these are possible with the support of the people, he said.
Acknowledging the blessing of the people of the assembly constituency, the CM urged the people to learn to take care of public properties as their own.
Clubs, 'Leikai Shinglup' and village committees need to protect their properties.
"Amid the hatred among each other, we are losing our own land and we could no longer find space to build park or even a gym.
It is high time we take seriously how we are losing our land and how we could no longer become owner of our own land.
It is time we give up our ego and work together for the future," he said.
The CM also explained about the devastating impact of illegal spurious liquor and drugs to the society and highlighted problems arising out of illegal drugs and how his government is fighting the menace of drug trafficking and abuse.
With the support from the public, the practice of illegal poppy cultivation has been reduced by around 90 per cent, Biren claimed.
He then stressed on the need to develop a collective responsibility among the people to help and support those who have strayed from the path.
He also emphasised on the role of clubs in this regard and urged the local clubs, committee and Meira Paibi organisations to contribute their mite in making the society, the state free from drugs.
PUC president M Phairenjaoba Meetei presided over the function while social welfare director Ng Uttam and Laip-ham Khunou GP up-pradhan Ch Rojen Meitei were the guests of honour.
