Ukhrul protests AFSPA, border fencing

Ukhrul, November 15 2024:
Thousands of people from all walks of life including students on Friday marched through Ukhrul town's thoroughfares during a public rally organised by the Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), in collaboration with the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), protesting against the AFSPA, border fencing, and the scrapping of the FMR - all of which are set against the backdrop of the pending Indo-Naga political settlement.
As the participants marched through the town, they held banners emblazoned with the message "Save the Peace" shouted slogans demanding the repeal of AFSPA, reinstatement of FMR and an expedited resolution to the Indo-Naga political issue.
The march began at two key locations namely Dungrei Junction and Kharasom Junction, and converged at the district headquarters ground, where a public gathering was held.
During the gathering, TSL president Thingreiphi, NPMHR general secretary Neingolu Krome, Naga Women Union (NWU) president Priscilla Thiumai, and UNC general secretary Vareiyo Shatshang spoke about the pressing challenges faced by the Naga people.
They highlighted the detrimental effects of AFSPA, FMR revocation, and the delays in resolving the Indo-Naga political dialogue and called for immediate actions on the part of the government to address the grievances of the Naga people.
Significantly, the public demonstration also marked the conclusion of the four-day-long TSL Golden Jubilee celebration, which was held under the theme "Reminiscing for the Future" .
