Manipur unites in grief to mourn two daughters

Imphal, June 13 2025:
Manipur united in grief, with political parties and organizations extending condolences to the families of the two young Air India cabin crew members from Thoubal and Imphal who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash.
The Air India flight bound for London with 242 people on board (232 passengers), including two crew members from Manipur-Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma and Lamnunthem Singson, crashed into a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, soon after it took off, resulting in a devastating loss of life with only one survivor.

While Nganthoi hailed from Thoubal, Lamnunthem, displaced from Imphal, was staying in Kangpokpi.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla led the way in expressing profound sadness over the demise of the two young girls.
Extending condolences to the family members and showing solidarity with the people of Manipur, Bhalla said that the loss of the two young, talented daughters of Manipur is truly heartbreaking.
May their souls rest in peace: TSA
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA), in a statement, expressed profound grief over the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed multiple lives, including two young cabin crew members from Manipur.
TSA said that Lamnungthem Singson, d/o Late Lenminlun Singson of the Thadou community hailed from Old Lambulane, Imphal and was residing at Kangpokpi District Headquarters as an internally displaced person.
She joined Air India as a cabin crew in 2024 and her untimely demise is a great loss to her family and the Thadou community, it said.
Condoling the loss of the two young lives, TSA pledged to provide support to the grieving families of Lamnunthem and Nganthoi.
"May their souls rest in peace", TSA prayed.
Their demise a loss for Manipur: BJP
The BJP, Manipur Pradesh also expressed 'deepest' sorrow and grief over the tragic plane crash.
Saying that Nganthoi Sharma and Lamnungthem Singson were promising cabin crew members, the BJP stated that their demise is a tremendous loss not only to their families and communities but also to the entire State.
The saffron party also condoled the death of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and prayed for all the departed souls to rest in peace.
"Return as proud daughters of Manipur"
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), while extending their condolences to the bereaved families, stated that Nganthoi Sharma and Lamnungthem Singson's dreams, dedication, and courage to soar high embodied the aspirations of Manipur's youths.
The Committee extended solidarity to the grieving families, acknowledging that words are inadequate to ease the pain of their loss.
Saying that Nganthoi and Lamnungthem were precious daughters of Manipur, COCOMI prayed that they return as proud daughters of Manipur if there is life beyond this one.
The Committee added that Nganthoi and Lamnunthem would forever be remembered in the hearts, prayers, and collective memory of Manipur's people as enduring symbols of courage, hope, and inspiration.
May their memory pave the way for normalcy: FOCS
Condoling the demise of two Manipur-born women in the Air India flight crash, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur prayed that their memories and the grief would pave the way for normalcy to return in Manipur.
The Federation extended solidarity to the bereaved families and prayed for all the departed souls to rest in peace.

The Sainik School, Imphal, led by Principal Colonel A Rajit, held a condolence meeting where officers, staff, and students observed a two-minute silence to mourn the Air India flight crash victims.
Unimaginable grief, says NPP
The National People's Party (NPP), Manipur unit, while offering their condolences, said that both Nganthoi and Lamnunthem served with unwavering dedication, grace, and commitment amidst the prevailing situation in Manipur, exemplifying the resilience and indomitable spirit of 'our people' .
CPI extends 'heartfelt' condolence
The CPI, Manipur State Council, also condoled the loss of lives in the Air India flight crash and extended solidarity to the bereaved families.
The Left party demanded a thorough investigation to prevent such tragedies in future.
Both were full of life: ex-CM
Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh also mourned the passing away of two young cabin crew members from Manipur.
In a Facebook post, N Biren wrote, "It is heartbreaking to share that two young cabin crew members from Manipur, Kongrabailatpam Nganthoi Sharma and Lamnunthem Singson, were among those who lost their lives in today's Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
Both were full of life, serving with dedication and pride.
Their sudden passing is a huge loss for their families, friends, and for all of us back home.
May their souls rest in peace and may their loved ones find the strength to get through this unimaginable pain" .
Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Indian Red Cross Society, and North East India Society, Thailand too condoled the victims of the flight crash.
