NPP MLAs skip state executive meet

All seven MLAs of National People's Party (NPP), Manipur unit skipped the state executive committee meet held at party's Naoremthong office on Wednesday.
However, the meeting chaired by NPP vice president Y Joykumar decided to seek reason from party's national president Conrad Sangma for deferment of the national executive meet earlier scheduled on October 5, to decide whether or not NPP would continue to extend support to the BJP-led government in the state.
The state executive committee meet from 11 am chaired by vice president Joykumar was attended by former ministers Y Erabot and N Mangi, ex-MLA S Subashchandra, ex-candidates and party functionaries.
However, none of the seven MLAs extending support to BJP led government in the state showed up at the venue.
The MLAs are Kh Loken of Wangoi AC, Th Snanti of Moirang, Md Noorul Hassan of Kshetrigao, Janghemlung Pamei of Tamenglong, I Nalini of Oinam, M Rameshwar of Kakching and N Kayisii of Tadubi AC.
Among them, party's state president and MLA Kayisii could not attend the meet due to illness though the meeting was held with his approval.
According to a source in the party, the meeting minutely discussed the ongoing unresolved violence in Manipur as well as activities and attitude of BJP government in the state and Centre on the violence.
Being a national party, NPP has its own ideology but working under other political party might dilute people's trust in the party.
In the past, NPP took crucial role in formation of government in the state though the party had only four MLAs.
However, the party managed to increase the tally to seven in the last assembly election and became second largest party.
Many candidates of the party also suffered defeat by narrow margin in the last election, the source said adding that trust of the people on the party would be lost if it continues back the BJP government amid the present political scenario.
The source further informed that the meeting held on September 27 in Guwahati with party president Conrad Sangma in chair discussed present political scenario in Manipur.
During the meeting, some MLAs and majority of state's executive members openly expressed their views on withdrawing support to BJP government.
However, the meeting decided that such crucial decision should be taken by national executive meet and accordingly set October 5 for holding the meeting.
However, the national executive was postponed indefinitely with party president issuing a notification in this regard.
According to the source, the state executive committee meet on Wednesday resolved to seek reason from the party president for postponement of the national executive meet preferably before the end of October.
The meet also resolved to seek time for national executive meet or whether the meet would be never be held.
