Imphal, February 01 2024:
While endorsing the decision to scrap Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Manipur has demanded the Central government to completely end the FMR and also to identify and deport all the illegal immigrants.
In a statement, FOCS said that the assassination of Moreh SDPO Anand by using sniper and recent attacks on state police with war munitions and high calibre weapons sourced from across the border testify handling of Chin-Kuki terrorists from the other side of the border in Moreh town.
The present unrest in the border town is a direct fall out of the attempt to turn it into a lawless town overrun by illegal Chin-Kuki immigrants.
The present crisis is part of the plan to create an exclusive nation for Chin-Kuki communities and is direct threat to the territory of India.
The Ministry of Home Affairs should take the matter seriously and take up swift steps to identify and deport the illegal immigrants, the statement said.
Expressing serious concern over the recent shutdown notice served to shop-owners in the border town and cautioning them against supplying goods and water to state police, FOCS said that the shutdown notice was served by a certain Chin-Kuki Terrorist Organisation by using the name Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal District Eastern Zone.
The notice demonstrates control of the Chin-Kuki terrorist organisation in the border town, their subversive attitude against the country.
The remark "peace will not return until state forces are removed" is nothing but a direct challenge to the country, FOCS opined.
Keeping in view of their terror activities, flushing out the illegal immigrant terrorists from the state would be the only viable solution to the present crisis in the state, FOCS maintained while demanding the government to empower and strengthen the state forces in the town but not to make them the sacrificial lamp.
Demanding the Centre to expedite the process for scrapping of FMR and border fencing, the statement said that these would be the only solution to the challenges posed by the illegal immigrants and cross border terrorists to the country.
