Imphal, February 01 2024:
Demanding capital punishment of those involved in the killing of Ngangom Navy, whose throat slitting video after being shot dead went viral on social media recently, the JAC formed in connection with the youth's death has decided not to claim the skeletal remains of Navy till the demands placed before the chief minister are honoured.
Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, JAC convenor Aribam Chanthoi recounted that Ngangom Navy went missing on May 28 last year.
Though there were widespread speculation that he was killed by the Kukis after an audio message was circulated on the social media, his body remained traceless.
However, some days back, a video of throat of Navy being slit by a Kuki, went viral on social media.
After the rowed down the site where the viral video was recorded, the skeletal remains of Navy were finally recovered.
He further said that slitting the throat after being shot dead and even shoving cane of beer into the cut throat of Navy is barbarous and inhuman act of the Kukis and an attempt to create fear psychosis among the Meeteis.
As such, the culprit involved in the act should be traced and given capital punishment by the government, Chanthoi demanded while calling upon all concerned that the Kukis who are barbarous and do not have any sympathy for human life should be flushed out from the soil of Manipur.
While urging for government job to next of kin of Navy as he belonged to an extremely economically underprivileged family, the convenor also lamented that the 37 Assam Rifles, whose camp is located just 200 metres away from where the mortal skeletal remains were recovered, claimed that they are not aware about the incident.
Therefore, the Assam Rifles is no longer desired in Manipur, Chanthoi said.
Further stating that the state government should provide an opportunity to meet the JAC and the demands placed honoured within a week, the convenor reiterated that the skeletal remains of Navy will not be claimed until the demands are fulfilled.
