Bishnupur, February 01 2024:
After a brief lull, Thamnapokpi and Naransena areas in Bishnupur district came under fresh round of attack by Kuki militants using bombs and high calibre weapons on Thursday around 11.08 am .
The Kuki militants launched the attack from Khoirentak and Leingangtabi villages in Churachandpur district towards a post of 2nd IRB at Naransena and bunkers of village volunteers located at Amu Loukol near the IRB post.
The militants rained several rounds of bombs and bullets towards the two targets for about 45 minutes, forcing the village volunteers to retaliate by firing some rounds.
In Thamnapokpi village, a bunker of local village volunteers came under the attack of Kuki militants from Lower Khoirentak side.
The attack did not last long.
In both the incidents, no one was injured.
According to local Meira Paibis, the place from where the Kuki militants launched the attack is located a little over 200 metres from a mobile unit of Central security forces including Sikh Regiment.
Unfortunately, the central forces did nothing to stop the Kuki militants during the heavy attack, they said while decrying lack of response of the central security forces despite unprovoked firing by Kuki militants.
They further said that they are apprehensive of the motive of the central security forces as they are doing nothing, especially during night time, except for some regular patrolling during daytime.
Despite their presence in the area, it is the civilians who are standing up against the terror activities of the Kuki militants, they said.
