Police creating wrong impression: MCDA

Imphal, September 23 2011: Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) has been working tirelessly to make medicines available to the general public and hopefully have been successful in doing so.

Amidst all these efforts put in by MCDA, it is unfortunate that the Manipur Police department is trying to create a wrong impression about the Association to the general public through the media.

To give an uninterrupted medicine supply to the general public, a 13 member team of MCDA will approach other pharmaceutical companies in Guwahati, Mumbai and Delhi if the current companies supplying medicines to the state are reluctant to supply medicines in Manipur.

Speaking at a press conference held at the office of MCDA at Roopmahal Tank this afternoon, Dr RK Ratankumar, General Secretary, MCDA said that the Association has in the past, during various economic blockades, brought in life saving drugs to Imphal.

Even during the ongoing economic blockade MCDA has tried its level best to bring in medicine laden trucks.

Unfortunately, on the 15th of this month two medicine loaded trucks were burnt down by blockade supporters.

As a result the company has refused to transport medicines further in the state unless the state compensate for the loss.

The state government has also assured to compensate for the burnt down medicine trucks before December 31 .

On the other hand, the company has demanded that the compensation be paid before 21 days starting from the date of lorry was received, he said.

He further went on to say that the issue has been reported to the Health Minister and Health Commissioner.

MCDA along with the concern officials has been pressuring the company to transport further medicines to the state.

Under such situations, the Manipur Police department's attitude to create a wrong impression about the Association to the general public through the media is very unfortunate.

MCDA has never exaggerated on any occasion.

He further said that the MCDA has requested the pharmaceutical companies to supply enough medicines to the state.

Even if the current companies supplying medicines in the state are still reluctant to supply medicines, a 13 member team of MCDA will approach other pharmaceutical companies in Guwahati, Mumbai and Delhi.
