NPUI condemns

Naga People's Union Imphal (NPUI) has condemned the incident of beating up of three Naga youths including an Assam Rifles jawan by a group of youths of another community.
According to a press release issued by the Convenor of NPUI, the incident occurred at New Checkon at around 8 pm on September 16 last.
One of the victims was an Assam Rifles jawan while other two were the students who came to the State capital to appear in Teachers Eligibility Test (TET), it added.
The press release further said, it was learnt that one Sub-Inspector (SI) of police commando came to intervene in the incident.
He arrested the two injured Naga youths and one Kuki youth and detained at Porompat Police Station, it added.
The SI however released the Kuki youth later while the Naga youths were detained the whole night, it alleged.
NPUI on the otherhand expressed gratitude to Imphal East Senior SP Clay Khongsai for releasing the two Naga youths without any bias.
NPUI also pressed to book the involved SI and youths involved in the incident at the earliest.
The union urged the Government to deploy more security personnel at New Checkon area in order to control such incidents.
It further said that one Naga ASI of police commando was also severely beaten up at the same locality who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on June 16 this year.
On the light of such incidents, NPUI urged people of different communities of the State not to indulge in any activity which may incite communal tension.
