Imphal, September 23 2011:
Amid the humanitarian crisis kicked up by the economic blockade on the National Highways, five-time world champion MC Mary Kom has begun rigorous practice with an eye on the London Olympics.
"My long-cherished dream is to shine in the Olympics, the biggest sporting event in the world for which I have begun hard practice," said Mary, mother of two sons and added that she is currently practicing around six hours a day.
To qualify for the London Olympics scheduled to be held in August next year she has to compete and qualify for the quarter final stage of the upcoming world championship likely to be held in May, the ace pugilist said.
"I am confident that I'll get through the world championship and earn a medal in the Olympics and I'll try my best to win gold," the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna awardee, said.
"Since there is a short gap of around two months between the world championship and the Olympics, I will practice harder for the two big events," she said.

Mary (29), who is serving as additional superintendent of police in the State Police Department, grabbed her historic fifth world title in succession after beating her old rival Steluta Duta of Romania 16-6 in the final played at Barbados's capital of Bridgetown in September last year.
Meanwhile Mary is apprehensive of her academy's ration stock running out in view of the economic blockade on the National Highways.
"Now we have limited ration of rice, edible oil, dal and vegetable etc for my residential students numbering around thirty and if the blockade continues for long we will face a big hardship," she said.
Mary is giving free accommodation, food and nutritional diets to her academy students christened 'MC Mary Kom Boxing Academy' opened at her residence.
