Aggrieved masses storm legislators' houses; three set ablaze

Imphal, November 16 2024:
The recovery of six abducted women and children including an 8-month-old infant enraged people forcing markets to shut down and protesters to storm the residences of Ministers and MLAs today.
People en masse across Imphal and elsewhere thronged the streets and stormed residences of several elected representatives and vandalised properties.
Enraged public burnt the residential houses of Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam at Ningthoukhong, Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar located at Sagolmang Mamang Leikai and Hiyanglam AC MLA Y Radheshyam at Langmeidong Bazar.
At least two men were hurt when security forces fired bullets to disperse a large crowd near the residence of CAF&PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro at Khurai Sajor Leikai.
Late in the evening, people marched to storm the residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Security forces fired tear gas shells and live bullets to disperse the crowd at Khabam Lamkhai.
A confrontation between the Meira Paibis and the Army at Sabungkhok Khunou injured at least 10 women.
Some were seriously hurt and they have been taken to hospitals in Imphal.
Two of the injured have been identified as Laishram Merna (55) and Moirangthem Rabita (49) .
Laishram Mema, wife of Boshan from Sanasabi, suffered injuries on her back.
She was hit on her back with bricks by Army personnel.
She was treated at Yaingangpokpi PHC.
Moirangthem Rabita, wife of Sanjit Kumar of Sabungkhok, suffered injuries on her hands.
She was hit with a stick by the Army personnel.
Meanwhile enraged mobs stormed the residences of Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam, Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi, Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam, Singjamei AC MLA Y Khemchand, Khurai AC MLA L Susindro, Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti, Kakching AC MLA M Rameshwar, Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo, Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Keba, Uripok AC MLA Kh Raghumani, Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan, Konthoujam AC MLA Sapam Ranjan, Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar and Hiyanglam AC MLA Y Radheshyam.
People stormed the residence of Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam in the afternoon and vandalised some properties.
Enraged people stormed the residence of Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam at Lilong Chajing in the afternoon.
Singjamei PS Officer-in-Charge arrived at the spot to control the crowd.
MLA Karam Shyam talked to the crowd in person and assured that he would resign if people desire.
People were gathering in his residence till evening.
People stormed the residence of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA S Kebi at Ningthemcha Karong in the afternoon.
The MLA met the people in person and she marched with the people towards the Chief Minister's bungalow.
The MLA and the crowd were stopped by the police at Keishampat junction.
The police took away MLA Kebi in a vehicle while people were blocked using barricades.
A commotion ensued and police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Angered by the incident, people stormed MLA S Kebi's residence again and vandalised some properties.
People stormed the residence of Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti at Moirang Kiyam Leikai in the afternoon.
He assured that he would work according to the wishes of the people.
People in large numbers formed a Meira chain and paid respect and homage to the six departed souls at Kakching.
The people burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and later stormed the residence of local MLA M Rameshwar and vandalised some properties including a vehicle.
Civil society organisations based in Kakching district have served a 48-hour ultimatum to Kakching MLA M Rameshwar and Wabagai AC MLA Dr Usham Deben to make their stand and planned action to end the crisis public.
At around 3.30 pm, people stormed the residence of Sagolband AC MLA RK Imo.
When the residential gate was found locked, an enraged public broke the gate and went inside the compound and vandalised some properties including furniture and burnt it in the courtyard.
People also stormed the residence of Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Keba.
The people vandalised and burnt down 5 vehicles - 1 four wheeler and 4-two wheeler - which were parked inside the compound.
Enraged crowd stormed the residence of Uripok AC MLA Kh Raghumani and vandalised some household properties.
People also stormed the residence of Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan, and Konthoujam AC MLA Sapam Ranjan located at Lamphel Sanakeithel.
People stormed the residence of MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai at around 6 pm.
Y Khemchand met the people in person and asserted that admitting the Government's failure to protect civilian lives, he had urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to resign as CM twice.
He further asserted that he was not invited to the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
The Minister assured that he will follow the wishes of the people.
In the evening at around 7, people tried to storm the residence of CAF&PD Minister Leishangthem Susindro at Khurai Sajor Leikai.
Sources said when people stormed the residence of the Minister, some protesters vandalised five parked vehicles.
Security forces resorted to firing bullets to disperse the crowd and it hurt at least two men.
The injured have been taken to JNIMS Hospital for treatment.
Additional security forces have been rushed to the residence of the Minister, and a large number of people were still gathering in the area till the time of filing this report.
The six who were abducted and killed by Kuki militants are Yumlembam Rani Devi (60), Telem Thoibi Devi (31) and her daughter Telem Thajamanbi (8), Laishram Heitonbi Devi (25), her son Laishram Chingkheinganba (2), and her youngest child, Laishram Langamba (8 months) .
The six were abducted by the Kuki militants from Jiribam's Jakuradhor on November 11 .
