Imphal, July 15 2009:
The result of the selection test for undergoing training in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course which was held on November 23 will be declared within this current month July and authority is planning to the commence the session from next month August.
State health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat conveyed this in giving reply to the call attention motion raised in the House of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today by MLA, Ng Bijoy of opposition MPP.
Drawing the attention of the health minister with regard to the delay in the declaration of the result of the selection test during the zero hour, Ng Bijoy recalled that the written test for undergoing JNM was held on November 23 last year and declared the same on January 28 .
However, the result of the viva-voce conducted to the 320 candidates who cleared the written test which was held on February 3 last is yet to declare for final selection of the candidates for undergoing the training.
Delay in the declaration of the result has felt the candidates of losing their academic careers.
He was drawing the attention of the minister concerned as the delay has compelled the girl community of the state that they are neglected by the government.
Apart from this, this training will help in availing jobs by the girls who completed the training successfully, he further observed.
Parijat, in his reply observed the delay in the declaration of result is due to the non-completion of the construction work of the nursing institution which is currently under progress at Lamphel.
There is no reason for losing the careers of the students by the delay.
After the RIMS authority proposed to shift the institution location inside the RIMS campus, the construction of the new building of the institution was started at the state health directorate office complex located opposite to RIMS hospital from 2005.The estimated cost was Rs 4.75 crore was provided by the North Eastern Council (NEC).
The construction work has been delayed due to the non-released of the fund.
But 80% of the works have been completed and government is targeting to complete by this month, July and commenced the session by next month August, the minister added.
Another reason for delay in the declaration is considering the problems to be faced by the authority when there is no building for conducting class after admission process to the selected candidates completed, he said.
Parijat further said that the intake capacity of students which was 120 earlier will be reduced consideration of the capacity of the institution.
But the matter is under consideration whether the intake capacity will be 60 or 90 is yet to be decided.
Ng Bijoy observed that the intake capacity is not to be decided by the state government but it should be decided by the Indian Nursing Council.
