Manipur-bound arms, explosives seized; one hurt in blast

A combined team of Assam Rifles and Kohima police on Tuesday recovered two pistols with four magazines, ammunition, explosives, and other war like stores suspected to be destined for Manipur.
According to PRO (Defence), acting on specific intelligence input regarding attempts to smuggle weapons and other war-like stores to Manipur via Nagaland, a joint operation of Assam Rifles and Kohima police was launched at 2 am Monday during which a passenger vehicle was kept under surveillance.
There after, around 6 am, the team searched the vehicle and recovered the weapons and explosives, the PRO added.
The successful operation by Assam Rifles and the police has foiled an attempt of a major incident by the inimical elements on security forces/government agencies deployed in Manipur, the PRO added.
Meanwhile, one person suffered injuries after a pipe-bomb exploded at Pishum Oinam Leikai in Imphal West district on Tuesday.
According to a police report, the bomb exploded at the courtyard of Salam Tomba Singh (62) s/o (L) S Ibomcha Singh of Pishum Oinam Leikai around 2:15 pm.
The explosion took place while Salam Lalit Singh (54), s/o (L) S Ibomcha Singh and Sapam Tarzan Singh (49) s/o (L) S Tomba Singh of Pishum Oinam Leikai were carrying out welding work on the GI pipe for fencing boundaries of the house.
The injured Lalit has been admitted to Kripadarshini Advanced Hospital, Palace Compound.
The GI pipe was reportedly bought from a scrap shop at Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai run by one Fulagen Ray, s/o Manchit Ray of Sirkhiria Sitamarhi, Bihar but presently residing at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
Fulagen Ray has been picked up in connection with the explosion and a case registered at Singj-amei police station for further investigation.
Due to impact of the explosion some household items were also damaged.
