Imphal, December 26 2022: Three major projects of the state which were taken up in the previous term by different departments and completed recently have been inaugurated by chief minister N Biren.

Two of the projects, namely Sangaithel police outpost and Mayang Langjing Kuthabi bridge, constructed under Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd and Public Works Department, respectively at an approximate cost of Rs 3 crore each were inaugurated on Monday while the third project, Nungoi bridge over Iril river under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) (Package No MN04111) was inaugurated on Sunday.

Speaking as at the inauguration function of Kuthabi bridge on Monday, CM N Biren recounted that various projects were initiated by the government in the last term but could not be completed due to outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic and inclement weather condition during the peak working season.

However, subsequent to completion of some projects, the government has started inauguration since December 15, he said and expressed elation that the government has been able to bring about the much needed development besides maintaining peace and harmony in the state.

CM Biren said, "People elect leaders so that peace and harmony prevails in the society.

Now, we are experiencing a state under the BJP government where the people have been able to live peacefully.

Let this situation prevail for long through and let us not bring back those days of despair and uncertainty".

Accusing the previous governments of being unmindful of the exact boundary Manipur, which existed as an independent kingdom, thereby creating fissures among the people settling in the hills and the valley, the chief minister said that compared to the distressful chaotic situation in the past, Manipur today is in peace and harmony.

Recalling the Tawang incident in which PM Narendra Modi took up necessary steps as a leader for the welfare of north east, N Biren said that the present government is not like the past when leaders had the notion that the border regions like the northeast should not be allowed to develop.

"Now, the government keeps no difference between any of the states and that is the reason why AFSPA has been repealed from many areas of the state".

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the locals, the chief minister assured of setting up a police outpost at Mayang Langjing and also informed that the government would develop infrastructures of primary health sub-centre at Mayang Langjing to fulfil the criteria of upgrading it to primary health centre.

Expansion of the road from Lamsang to Khurkhul would also be considered, he stated.

Biren further informed that the government would include construction of a market shed at Mayang Langjing in the work programme and urged to identify a suitable site for it.

At the Sangaithel police outpost event, the chief minister stated that police work for ensuring security and welfare of people and as such, both the police and the public need to respect each other.

Meeyamgi Numit is now organised in different districts under deputy commissioners (DCs) and superintendents of police (SPs) so that grievances of the public could be raised through them.

Interaction between the public and police could help in maintaining a healthy relationship among them, he added.

Stating that Sangaithel has become a tourist spot and once the Olympian Park is opened, many tourists will surely visit the site, N Biren stressed the need to expand the road from Patsoi Lamkhai to Olympian Park into a double lane.

While appreciating the locals including Chiru, Rongmei and Kabui for expressing their support for expansion of the approach road to the Olympian Park, he informed that the Olympian Park will be inaugurated by Union Home minister Amit Shah during his likely visit in January next.

The chief minister further stated that law and order of the state has improved considerably and different communities inhabiting the state are living together, giving respect to one another.

He said the recent Sangai festival held at different places of the state and participated by various communities were proof of peaceful co-existence among different communities and would help the government realise the objective of One Nation, One Manipur.

He also spoke on the effect of climate change and its adverse impact on water bodies and appealed to the locals of Sangaithel not to cut down trees extensively.

The chief minister informed that his government will develop Sangaithel Football ground and also asked the locals to identify a suitable place for construction of a market shed and inform him, so that it could be constructed.

Regarding the setting up of a primary health centre at Sangaithel, the chief minister assured that the government would take up necessary steps, by including it in preparation of the budget.

Delivering the presidential speech, MLA S Rajen, who is also the deputy chairman of Manipur state planning authority, commended the chief minister for focusing on development and restoration of peace.

Regarding the importance of the Sangaithel Police Outpost, he stated that people of different communities are residing in Sangaithel and as such establishment of the outpost was accorded priority.

Patsoi MLA S Kunjakeswor, speaking at Sangaithel Police Outpost inauguration function, said that the mindset of people has changed and the public have started believing that law is above all.

The newly inaugurated police outpost would be helpful in maintaining law and order in Sangaithel area, he expressed and praised the state police's role in the 'War on Drugs' campaign.

The chief minister deliberated on the benefits of schemes like Go to Hills and Go to Village and said these schemes have helped in understanding the necessities of the rural areas and interior hill districts and delivering to them.

"During the past term, the government had lost more than two and half years due the COVID Pandemic and another six/seven months this term due to rains.

However, with blessings from the people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we were able to initiate development works in the state," he said.
