Imphal, February 21 2025:
A team of Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), led by its president and general secretary, held a meeting with Ministry of Home Affairs' advisor (Northeast) AK Mishra on February 17, at the latter's North Block, New Delhi office and presented roadmap for restoring peace in Manipur.
The meeting focused on discussing the ongoing crisis in Manipur and exploring ways for return of normalcy in the state.
In statement, TIM informed that during the meeting the team highlighted the futility of violence, which has resulted in the loss of many precious lives and destruction of properties, affecting not only the parties directly involved but also those who are not part of the conflict, particularly the Thadou tribe.
A peace roadmap was presented by TIM, aimed at establishing lasting peace in Manipur, while also shedding light on the untold sufferings of the Thadou tribal community.
The Inpi emphasised that the Thadou people have been among the most affected and yet silent victims of the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023.TIM reiterated the consistent position of the Thadou tribe in advocating for peace and non-violent resolutions to the ongoing crisis.
The delegation also underscored the historical facts and distinct identity of the Thadou tribe, clarifying that the Thadou are not Kuki, nor a sub-group or part of the Kuki community, but a separate and independent entity.
Instances of atrocities and persecution faced by the Thadou people due to their distinct identity, allegedly at the hands of Kuki supremacist forces and armed militant groups, were brought to the fore.
The TIM delegation highlighted the peace-loving nature of the Thadou community and its role as peacemakers in the interest of the community and the nation, despite facing threats of violence, death, and actual lethal attacks from anti-peace groups determined to undermine Thadou identity.
AK Mishra acknowledged the concerns raised by TIM and recognised the distinct identity of the Thadou tribe and the misconceptions surrounding the Thadou community, often mistaken for being part of the Kuki due to ignorance or systematic disinformation.
Mishra expressed deep appreciation for the Thadou community's commitment to peace and their efforts toward non-violent solutions, the statement added.
