Liangmai, Naga bodies warn Kukis
Source: Chronicle News Service / Newmai News Network

Imphal, June 20 2023: Various Naga and Liangmai organisations strongly condemned the burning down of a house belonging to a Liangmai Naga person at Leimakhong Chingmang by the Kukis and asserted that they will not remain mute spectators.

Liangmai Naga Katimai Ru angdi, Manipur (LNKR-M)/ Liangmai Students' Union, Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (LPNR)/.Liangmai Women's Union and Liangmai Naga Ruangdi (LNR), the apex organisations of Liangmai Na gas of Nagaland and Manipur, strongly condemned burning down of the Liangmai Naga house by Kukis at Leimakhong Chingmang on June 18 .

In separate statements, Liangmai Naga Ruangdi (LNR) said that the Kukis burnt the house fully aware that it belonged to a Naga family and vandalised two residential gates of the same village belonging to Nagas.

It said that the torching of Naga house and vandalism were carried out in presence of huge military personnel and in front of the main gate of 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong but hundreds of Central forces stationed there remain as muted spectators to the attack perpetrated by the Kukis.

Now, Liangmai people's lives and properties are not safe while the role of military and Central forces in conflict-torn areas in the state cannot remain unquestioned, the LNR added.

According to LNR, torching and vandalism of houses and gates belonging to Nagas at Leimakhong was not an isolated case as the Kukis had forcefully built war bunkers and makeshift camps within the jurisdiction of a Naga village called K Lungwiram.

In addition to that, a few weeks ago, during the clashes be tween the Kukis and Meiteis, K Lungwiram was deliberately targeted and fired upon by the Kukis inspite of knowing that it is a Naga village so as to create fear psychosis amongst the Nagas in the areas, the LNR added.

Inspite of knowing the Nagas' neutral stand in the ongoing conflict, the Kukis have been involved in waylaying and carrying out frisking and checking the Liangmai Nagas.

Despite repeated warnings, the Kukis have been harassing the Liangmai Naga travellers/commuters on National Highway-2, Leimakhong areas including IT road, LNR added said while warning that Liangmai Naga organisations will not tolerate such misadventure.

Meanwhile, the Joint Tribe Council (JTC), a conglomera tion of Zeme Naga Council, Manipur (ZNC-M), Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNC-M) and Inpui Union, Manipur (IUM), said that burning down of Liangmai Naga house at Leimakhong was an orchestrated attack perpetrated by the Kukis.

Strongly condemning the incident, the tribe bodies of Rongmei, Liangmai, Inpui and Zeme said that this violent incident targeting the Nagas at Leimakhong despite the tag 'Naga House' pasted at the respective gates was a direct threat to principle of neutrality over the prevailing situation in the state.

The JTC also said that the arrack was carried out in front of the main gate of 57 Mountain Division at Leimakhong, where hundreds of military personnel are stationed but all of them remain mute spectator to the orchestrated attack perpetrated by the Kukis.

This orchestrated attack has compelled Nagas to conclude that the mutual respect and peaceful coexistence anticipated from the Kukis has proven to be wrong, the JTC said adding that the Kuljis have crossed the limit and going against the spirit of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in the state.
