NGOs decry crime against humanity in state

Imphal, May 10 2011:
The District Network (DN) and District Women Committee (DWC), and the United NGOs Mission Manipur (UNMM), Imphal East, today expressed deep concern over the crime against humanity and justice delivery system in the state.
In a statement, the UNMM stated that 24 persons including one female between age group of 18 to 40 years were killed in armed conflict in the state during the period from January to April 2011.There were also 57 cases of violence against women during the four months.
DN and DWC condemned the killings of civilians and violence against women particularly the increasing rate of suicide cases.
The release also expressed serious concern on the fact that most of the people killed in the state are all young and energetic youth of the society.
It also calls for fair and transparent advocacy and movement to all the JAC formed for different and various killing in the state, asserting that in most of the cases, justices are negotiated with ex-gratia which has become a trend in the state which leads to the victimization of poor and innocent people.
The statement appealed to the state authority for its strong commitment and political will to stop violence and crime against humanity, give proper and timely investigation in order to book and convict the criminals and constitute special policies and preventive measures to respond crimes against women.
